  • Behold, fair pilgrims, for you have chosen the fortnight when Tennessee dons its most splendid attire. The days are crisp enough to keep one’s armor from overheating, yet warm enough to permit gallivanting without the need for thermal undergarments. The trees, having recently burst into glorious oranges and reds, shall scatter their leaves about the countryside in an artistic manner that appears accidental but is, in fact, divinely choreographed.

    In Nashville, troubadours strum upon every street corner, luring passersby with tunes both sacred and suspiciously twangy. In Franklin, cobbled streets and historic shopfronts stand ready to charm you into buying unnecessary but highly decorative knickknacks. The air is scented with barbecue, coffee, and the faint aroma of someone baking pie nearby.

    It is, without question, the season of maximum merriment — before winter’s chill has arrived, and after the summer’s swelter has been firmly banished. Truly, it is the best time to crusade into Tennessee, unless of course you are allergic to beauty, music, or the gentle rustle of autumn leaves underfoot.
